Your first time in a sauna: how to do it

30 June 2026 · 3 min read

Going to the sauna for the first time does not have to be complicated. There are no rules you need to know by heart, but a few simple things will help you get more out of the session and feel comfortable straight away.

What to bring

  • A towel to sit on and one to dry yourself with.
  • Swimwear if you want to cold plunge — with us the water is always right next to you.
  • A water bottle. You sweat more than you think and it is important to drink.

How to go during the session

Start calmly. Sit on the lower bench first, where it is cooler, and move up once you have adjusted. A good first session is a few rounds of 5 to 15 minutes in the heat with breaks in between. Leave when you start to feel hot and uncomfortable, cool off, drink water, and go back in when you want. If you want to try a cold plunge, do it between rounds — it only needs to be a few seconds.

After the sauna

Take it easy for a while afterwards and keep drinking water. Many people feel relaxed and pleasantly tired. That is completely normal. Do not push yourself to sit longer than feels good; the endurance comes with time.

With us you book easily online and get a personal code for the door, so you skip the reception and can take your time. Want the sauna entirely private, or to share a session with others? Read more about how it works and our locations in Stockholm.
